Morning Programs

CCBC Children's Center provides a high-quality, child-oriented, flexible education for preschool children.  Features include:

Small groups, low staff/child ratio

The ratio is 1:3 for toddlers, 1:4 for two year olds, 1:8 for three year olds, and 1:10 for four and five year olds.

Sensitive, professional staff

Each class has two experienced teachers, as well as an aide for some part of each day. In addition, there are special resource teachers for music and creative movement.

Curriculum

We believe children learn through play.  A developmentally appropriate curriculum is planned in order to enhance the development of the whole child--socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically.

Community contact

Older children take field trips to pick pumpkins, visit nature centers and gardens, see puppet shows and visit interesting places.  Rescue squad members, doctors, dentists, musicians, and parents also visit the school to talk about their work. Each spring we organize a truck day featuring the large vehicles we see in our neighborhood.

Children who attend CCBC Children's Center learn to:

  • Socialize and use language to express needs.
  • Share and cooperate.
  • Take turns listening and talking.
  • Choose individual activities and participate in group activities.
  • Help solve problems and make group decisions.
  • Clean up and put things back where they belong.
  • Create with basic materials:  water, play dough, clay, magic markers, crayons, paints, scissors, and collage materials.
  • Appreciate nature by caring for classroom pets, planting seeds, and taking trips outdoors.
  • Understand the world around us:  our bodies, our friends, people in the neighborhood, holidays we celebrate, food we eat, music and books, the outdoors, and other cultures

Our school thrives on parental involvement.  Though it is not a co-op, parents are asked to assist at the school four times each year.  Instead of doing these work days, parents may choose to pay a higher tuition.

CCBC Children's Center is nonprofit and nonsectarian.  We accept children without regard to race, color, or national origin.  There is limited financial assistance available for qualified applicants.

We have eight classes grouped by age, accommodating 160 children aged 18 months to 5 years.

We offer a toddler program for one and two year olds, two or three mornings a week.  Three year olds may attend two, three, or five mornings a week (eligibility determined by birthday and space availability).  Four and five year olds attend five mornings a week.

Morning Nursery Classes

Classes meet 9:00 - 12:30.  Children may arrive in the classroom or on the playyard at 8:55 (not earlier).  Dismissal is at 12:30.  There is a late charge for pick-up after 12:30.

Early Morning Drop-Off

Early morning drop-off is 8:00 - 8:55 -- available for any child by prior arrangement with a participating teacher.  The cost is $15 per drop-in.  Parents pay the teacher directly.
